Maintain a free service tier, in the spirit of Ping.fm
If you're closing Ping.fm, you should maintain a free service tier for Ping. Remove features, limit posting frequency, whatever, but it should be a comparable service to the one you'll eventually close.
We will have a free version with limited accounts and posts per day. We’ll continue to add features and services which we’ll make paid.

Ping.fm was and still is better then Seesmic ping! it should be free not a paid service! the free option is a joke! it says i can post to 3 accounts yet it wont let me post to facebook pages! this is not in line of the spirit of ping.fm... WTF! I've closed down my account because of this new paid option that you DIDN'T even warn us about!!!!!

chose ping as it was free and fast . now will have to stop using it as it has limited usage in the "free plan" . Thought ping was a a part of FOSS movement , well not anymore. bye ping, you got overtaken by corporate behemoths :(

I can't see anyone wanting to pay for this when tweetdeck and hootsuite offer a similar product. Can't you use advertising to generate your income instead? That way you keep the service mostly free...
